Marble

Marble is simply a limestone that has been compressed and or heated deep within the earth's crust. Unlike Granite, Marble was never a molten rock, but may have been heated and squeezed enough for the limestone grains to bend and flow through it. Marble is made of medium density material suitable for uses on Bathroom, Vanity, Fire Place Facings, Table Tops including Floors or Walls. The beauty of Marble has long been recognized as the material of choice with unlimited workability. A multiple of colors and patterns make this natural stone the perfect stone for all time to come.

Limestone
Limestone is probably a material that you associate more with great monuments or architecture. Canada is the main source of quality limestone in North America. Limestone varies in hardness: some varieties are softer like marble and some are harder and more scratch-resistant like granite. A porous material, limestone requires proper periodic resealing with a penetrating sealer to help prevent staining. Being a natural stone product like granite or marble, the range of available colors for limestone countertops is dictated by what is currently being quarried around the world. There are, however, some shades found in limestone that do not exist in other natural stones, such as particularly vibrant blues.

Soapstone

This natural quarried stone is softer than most other naturally occurring minerals. Although soft, Soapstone is a very dense (non-porous) stone; more so than marble, slate, limestone and even granite. Since Soapstone is impenetrable , it will not stain, no liquid will permeate its surface. Soapstone is a unique material with excellent characteristics for use in home countertops.
Soapstone is becoming increasingly popular again for use as kitchen countertops because of its soft and warm feel. Consumer reviews regularly rate soapstone as one of the best countertop surfaces available. One the most notable features about high quality soapstone is its inert nature. This means it will not react to household cleaners or spills of acidic or alkaline liquids such as juices and vinegar, which marble and granite will react to. Another excellent characteristic of soapstone is that if it is stained, the stain does not seep deeply into the structure of the stone. This means with a little light scrubbing or sanding you can erase the stain and return your countertop to its original state.

Travertine

Travertine is one of several natural stones that are used for paving patios and garden paths. It is sometimes known as travertine limestone, sometimes as travertine marble; these are the same stone, even though it is neither limestone nor marble. The stone is characterized by pitted holes and troughs in its surface. Although these troughs occur naturally, they suggest to some eyes that considerable wear and tear has occurred over many years. It can be effectively polished to a smooth, shiny finish and comes in a variety of colors from gray to coral-red. Travertine is most commonly available in tile sizes for floor installations.

Slate

Slate tiles are often used for interior and exterior flooring or wall cladding. Tiles are installed and set on mortar and grouted along the edges. Chemical sealants are often used on tiles to improve durability and appearance, increase stain resistance, reduce effloresce, and increase or reduce surface smoothness. Tiles are often gauged, meaning that the back surface is ground for ease of installation.
